iPhone Mania

On the eve of the new and improved iPhone hitting the shelves, I went to the Apple store on Michigan Avenue in downtown Chicago and was surprised by the number of people lined up with camping gear in tow waiting for Friday morning to dawn and Apple’s doors to open.

The popularity of this new iPhone begs the question, what is its relevance to the business world?!@! I recently came across an article about its business appeal in the San Jose Mercury News. The iPhone’s newest model flaunts faster Web access and new e-mail and security features, all of which is enticing to corporate America.

According to the article, Wells Fargo’s executive vice president, Steve Ellis, is currently involved with a pilot iPhone project, an effort to integrate the new technology into the organization’s infrastructure. If more organizations move in the direction of Wells Fargo, what does that mean for learning? How can the learning change and adapt to the iPhone? Will there be more of a push for on-demand applications?

This transition may not happen today, but it could happen in the future. More and more consumers are purchasing the new iPhone, some of which are probably your employees. Organizations need to be looking at how learning can evolve to better meet the technology and learning styles of today’s employees. As always, feel free to share your thoughts in the Comments section below.
