Liz Loutfi: From your perspective, how is professional coaching a useful tool that organizations can be using in their reskilling journey?

Robert Garcia: We see that when organizations that have a strong coaching culture by using professional coaches, they perform better. So something is going on. There is a revolution. Not only is there a reskilling and upskilling revolution. But there’s a coaching revolution where people are finding that professional coaching works.

It makes you a better person, it makes you happier. When there are more engaged employees, you’re able to achieve more. You’re able to really define what the goals, what the objectives are.

Liz Loutfi: I like to think of a coach as just another person in someone’s corner. If you want to be better at lifting weights, you get a professional trainer. If you want to work on your mental health, you have a counselor or a therapist. It’s just another person that you have in your corner to help support you.

They point out things that you don’t necessarily see to begin with, and they give you that fresh perspective that could be missing.

Robert Garcia: Absolutely. And coaches ask really good questions. Thought-provoking questions where you may have been thinking about it, but now that it’s out in the open.
