CLO Symposium 2023: Ruth Gotian shares a methodological approach to peak performance

Dr. Ruth Gotian, Weill Cornell Medicine’s CLO, shared research and takeaways from in-person interviews with astronauts, Nobel Prize winners, CEOs and Olympic champions in her 2023 CLO Symposium keynote session.

“I don’t believe anybody wakes up in the morning aiming to be average,” said Dr. Ruth Gotian, as she opened her keynote discussion on October 17 during CLO’s 2023 Symposium in San Diego. “I think people want to succeed, but we haven’t figured out how to do so.”

Gotian’s keynote address, “The Success Factor — Developing the Mindset and Skill Set for Peak Performance,” was based on her book, “The Success Factor,” and her research and in-person interviews with astronauts, Nobel Prize winners, CEOs and Olympic champions. In addition to her expertise in mentorship and leadership development — she was recently recognized as one of the top 20 mentors in the world — Gotian is also the chief learning officer for Weill Cornell Medicine.

“I am a CLO, and when people ask me, ‘what does that mean exactly?’ I say: ‘It’s my job to make people successful.’ And I think that’s the best description of what we do,” Gotian said.
