CLO Symposium 2023: Powering the workforce of the future

Executives from Amazon Career Choice, the U.S. Naval Community College and Western Governors University discuss powering the workforce of the future.

“Please join me in welcoming two amazing visionaries and change-makers,” said Spencer Stewart, as he kicked off one of the 2023 CLO Symposium’s first breakout sessions on October 16 in San Diego.

Stewart, who served as moderator of the session, titled “Impact Innovation: Powering the Workforce of the Future,” is vice president of strategic partnerships at Western Governors University, a 2023 CLO Symposium Gold Sponsor. He was joined by Randi Reich Cosentino, president of the United States Naval Community College, which is designed to serve enlisted Sailors, Marines and Coast Guardsmen in providing access to military-relevant education, and Tammy Thieman, global director of Amazon Career Choice, Amazon’s upskilling program.

“Randi and Tammy, as I thought about this — powering the workforce of the future — you educate, just your two organizations, a broad swath of the workforce,” Stewart said. Indeed, Amazon has close to 1.5 million employees, and the U.S. Navy, the third largest of the U.S. military service branches in terms of personnel, has close to half a million personnel on active duty and in the Ready Reserve.

So, how are these organizations “powering the workforce of the future”? What considerations are top of mind in supporting their people, and how are they leveraging innovation for true impact?
