The second day of the 2023 CLO Symposium — held in San Diego this year — began bright and early with a networking breakfast, followed by a keynote address by Dr. Ruth Gotian, chief learning officer for Weill Cornell Medicine.
During her keynote, Dr. Gotian discussed the characteristics and attributes of high performers and shared applicable lessons based on research and in-person interviews she’s conducted with astronauts, Nobel Prize winners, CEOs and Olympic champions.

For the rest of the morning, attendees took part in workshop sessions featuring topics such as digital transformation and reskilling, building a robust coaching culture, artificial intelligence in learning and extending diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging efforts beyond simple check-the-box approaches.

Dr. Gotian was also on-site signing copies of her latest book, “The Success Factor.”

In the afternoon, attendees had more workshops to choose from covering matters such as servant leadership and generative AI. The 2022 LearningElite Organization of the Year, ADP, also hosted a workshop about their journey to becoming an award-winning learning and development organization.

Sessions concluded with a live “Voices of CLO” podcast taping featuring a conversation between De. Keith Keating, chief learning officer and author of the upcoming book “The Trusted Learning Advisor,” and Ashley St. John, CLO’s editor-in-chief and chief content officer.
