Podcast: Voices of CLO: CLO LIFT

This episode of Voices of CLO features a conversation with members of the CLO LIFT project.

The November Voices of CLO podcast episode features a conversation with members of CLO LIFT. Spanning across industries, the CLO LIFT project is a band of learning and development leaders who have come together to solve some of the biggest challenges in corporate learning.

Under the umbrella of The Learning Forum, CLO LIFT—and you must tune into the episode to learn what “LIFT” stands for—is working to address 10 persistent challenges that corporate L&D has faced for decades. They are tackling these challenges three at a time.

“There’s so much new thought leadership, tools, systems, technologies, frameworks, methodologies,” said Noah Rabinowitz, CLO LIFT member and VP of talent development at Commonwealth Fusion Systems. “We started asking the question: Is new equal to better, and is the learning industry actually progressing and evolving to a better place? The answer we came up with, we don’t know.”

Which is problematic, he adds. “Because there’s no shortage of activity, but, we’re not clear if that’s actually taking us to a better place. So, we decided that the only way we were going to actually make progress in that regard was to come together as a community and start digging into these problems, collectively, as a group of learning leaders.”

As I mention in the recording of this podcast, there is power in numbers; putting multiple heads together toward a shared vision. These learning leaders have dedicated themselves, and their spare time, to issues larger than themselves or their organizations, which is commendable.

“They truly understand the value of problem-solving as peers, and they volunteered their time to work together on these challenges because they want to take back the thought leadership on the future of learning and development,” said Meighan Hackett Poritz, CLO LIFT member and Learning Forum partner.

The first three challenges that CLO LIFT is trying to address are time to learn, the high demand for skills development and governance of the L&D organization. The 10 challenges were taken to the CLO Council at The Learning Forum, and they voted on these three for CLO LIFT to address first.

The learning leaders who make up CLO LIFT have perfectly positioned themselves to make headway on these industrywide challenges. And with the passion they all share for addressing them, it’s full steam ahead.
