“Let me welcome you to the future,” began Kamales Lardi, as she opened her keynote address, “The End of Business as Usual,” on October 18 at the 2023 CLO Symposium.
Lardi, who serves as chief executive officer for Lardi & Partner Consulting, was the closing speaker for the event, which took place over three days at Rancho Bernardo Inn in San Diego — the first in-person CLO Symposium since late 2019. Lardi combines more than 23 years of deep cross-industry experience with the latest digital and technology solutions and is listed in the Top 10 Global Influencers & Thought Leaders in Digital Transformation by Thinkers360. Since establishing Lardi & Partner Consulting in 2012, she has advised many multinational companies across various industries in Europe, Asia and Africa.
“Technology has embedded itself into almost every aspect of our lives, changing the way we communicate, interact and engage with each other, as well as the world around us,” Lardi continued. “With technology such as digital AI employees to 3-D printing organs to controlling machines with our minds, we are now surrounded by technology that could only have been dreamt up in science fiction movies. And these technologies are developing at such a rapid pace, they are transforming the world around us.”
With advancements in technology rapidly progressing, the waves of innovation are getting shorter and more impactful. We are now in the sixth wave of innovation, Lardi explained, and in this sixth wave, it’s becoming all the more clear that we are at the end of ‘business as usual.’
“We need a new playbook, a new set of rules that is going to help us succeed in the business landscape,” she said. “The time-tested rules of how we identify and engage with customers, how we develop and market products and services, as well as how we manage organizations — operations as well as the people in those organizations — these rules are no longer valid. Emerging technologies have upended these rules.”
