Be Ambitious

It is difficult to imagine the achievement of any significant goal without the motivation, drive and desire to push farther, try harder and do more.

As one of the nation’s leading multiplatform media companies serving the human capital management industry for more than a decade, it has always been our ambition to deliver the most comprehensive perspective on human capital strategy and management. Our three award-winning properties — Chief Learning Officer, Diversity Executive and Talent Management — are widely recognized as the premier resources for strategic, executive-level content in their respective industry segments.

But in January, we took a giant step toward increasing our scope, synergy and strength in the industry by acquiring Workforce Management from Crain Communications Inc. With this addition to our Human Capital Media (HCM) Group, we now provide thought leadership, strategy, news, education and analysis across the entire hire-to-retire spectrum of human capital management from the C-suite to the front lines.

Respected and referenced in the industry for more than 90 years, Workforce Management is one of the oldest and largest continuously published business magazines in the U.S. Its timely, news-driven coverage of key business stories focuses primarily on day-to-day operations and transactional execution for specific HR disciplines such as benefits, compensation, employee engagement, legal compliance, recruitment, training and staffing management.

In other words, it is the perfect complement to our executive titles, delivering the practical information and tools organizations of all sizes need to execute strategy and manage human capital assets every day. Under the HCM banner, Workforce Management, along with its associated e-newsletters, events and popular website, workforce.com, will maintain this focus and incorporate more feature-driven content, with thought pieces on policy, procedure and practice.

As excited as we are to add Workforce Management to the Human Capital Media Group, we are thrilled beyond belief to welcome their people to our family. They are seasoned professionals who will make all of us better at what we do. This month marks the publication of the first issue of Workforce Management as an HCM title, and I couldn’t be more excited or proud. With our publications, electronic media, research initiatives and events, we continuously push further, try harder and do more for all our stakeholders.

Those of you in the workforce development industry will see what all this ambition accomplishes later this month at the Spring 2013 CLO Symposium, taking place March 18-20 at the Hyatt Lost Pines Resort & Spa, a 405-acre, award-winning hotel along the banks of the Colorado River in Austin, Texas.

Based on the theme “Home on the Range: Learning for a Globalized Workforce,” the three-day, executive-level agenda focuses on today’s new work environment and what it takes to deliver innovative and inviting development to a dispersed and diverse community of learners. Features include inspiring keynotes, provocative panel discussions, our popular Power Hour Plus rapid-fire presentations, an astounding 30 practitioner-led workshops to choose from, plus a variety of opportunities to network.

Some of today’s most dynamic business thought leaders and workforce development executives will share their expertise, ideas and inspiration. Presenters include David C. Novak, chairman and CEO of Yum Brands Inc.; learning industry legend Elliott Masie; and Derek Cunard, dean of American Heart University at the American Heart Association.

The convergence of ambition and accomplishment also will be celebrated the evening before the Symposium official opens at the LearningElite Gala. On Sunday evening, March 17, we will unveil the best of the best — the top organizations identified through our industry-leading benchmarking program — companies pushing to deploy ever-more-elite learning and development practices that deliver business value.

If you have not yet made plans to attend the Spring 2013 CLO Symposium, there’s still time. I encourage you to register here and join us.

I also hope you will join in welcoming Workforce Management to the Human Capital Media family. We are determined to make it a valuable and indispensable adjunct to Chief Learning Officer magazine and a tool organizations can use every day to help accomplish their own ambitious business goals.
