Chief Learning Officer Magazine Announces 2013 LearningElite Finalists

The finalists are recognized as innovators in enterprise education, delivering measurable business value by utilizing the best workforce development practices.

Chicago, Feb. 19, 2013 — Chief Learning Officer magazine (CLO) has announced the 2013 LearningElite organizations. The finalists are recognized as innovators in enterprise education, delivering measurable business value by utilizing the best workforce development practices.

Developed under the guidance of a group of chief learning officers and senior workforce development practitioners, LearningElite is a peer-based benchmarking initiative that recognizes excellence using five key learning and development (L&D) performance indicators: learning strategy, learning execution, learning impact, business performance results and leadership commitment. It is designed to aid organizations in drilling down on the practices that really matter and identifying key metrics that put L&D initiatives into the context of their business.

“The LearningElite rapidly has become the industry’s most meaningful analysis of L&D best practices and their influence on business performance,” said Norm Kamikow, president and editor in chief of MediaTec Publishing Inc., which publishes Chief Learning Officer magazine. “It affords organizations of all sizes the opportunity to benchmark their learning organizations against other enterprises employing elite workforce development strategies. The evaluation yields solid data that validates the impact important learning initiatives have on productivity, engagement, innovation and, ultimately, business results.”

Competition for the prestigious LearningElite designation increased this year, attracting many first-time applicants as well as numerous 2012 LearningElite organizations that re-applied in the hopes of raising their benchmark and gauging their progress toward continued improvement. As in 2012, the top five finalists are required to participate in a capstone evaluation, which includes a presentation before the capstone-evaluation judging panel.

“The top five companies have shown that their L&D programs are phenomenal on paper, but the purpose of the capstone evaluation is for these five role-model organizations to demonstrate innovation and rigor in L&D practices,” said Sarah Kimmel, director of research and advisory services for the Human Capital Media Advisory Group, a component of MediaTec Publishing. “It also allows the judging team an in-depth examination of leadership commitment to learning, learning measurement and learning innovation — essential components of scoring and role model determination.”

The final 2013 LearningElite rankings will be announced March 17 at a gala celebration preceding the opening of the Spring 2013 CLO Symposium at the Hyatt Lost Pines Resort & Spa in Austin, Texas. The black-tie optional event, sponsored by Bellevue University, getAbstract and Procter & Gamble, is an annual highlight attracting luminaries from throughout the workforce development industry.

Organizations named to the LearningElite also will be featured in the June 2013 issue of Chief Learning Officer magazine and have the opportunity to host workshops at the 2013 LearningElite Forum virtual event in August.
