Gary Vaynerchuk, successful entrepreneur, co-founder of VaynerMedia and best-selling author, opens the Symposium. In his latest book, The Thank You Economy, Vaynerchuk examines how organizations that emphasize quality, value, responsiveness and attention to detail see the biggest returns with both customers and employees. Applying these principles to workforce development, he will discuss the power of social media as a tool for listening and engaging and demonstrate how enterprises can show employees they care when planning learning initiatives.
Symposium attendees also will hear from Lisa Doyle, vice president of learning and development for Lowe’s Cos. Inc. and the 2011 CLO of the Year. Former chancellor of the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs Acquisition Academy, Doyle will share three tenets at the heart of her success: passion, determination and courage. Discussing her work at the VA and Lowe’s, she will provide personal strategies for building high-performing teams with the commitment to achieve outstanding results and the courage to innovate and transform.
During the three-day meeting, enterprise education and development leaders from all over the world will explore innovative technologies that contribute to building a long-term, sustainable learning strategy. Keynote speaker Gabe Zichermann will focus his remarks on reinventing human capital strategies with gamification. Zichermann is CEO of Gamification.co and Dopamine Inc., as well as an industry thought leader whose book, Gamification by Design, looks at the technical and architectural considerations for designing engagement using games concepts. He will discuss how companies are using game mechanics to attract, train and retain top talent and reap significant increases in productivity, engagement, innovation and results.
The CLO Symposium closes on a high note with a motivational keynote by Paul Deegan, Everest mountaineer and award-winning author. At the turn of the 21st century, Deegan organized an expedition to an unexplored range of mountains. Members of his team ascended previously unclimbed peaks and encountered nomadic communities who had never met people from outside the former Soviet Union. To prepare for this groundbreaking enterprise, Deegan drew on his experiences as a leader and team member on expeditions to Alaska, the European Alps and the Himalayas. At the Symposium, Deegan will illustrate his philosophy of invisible leadership and explain why he makes sure every member of his team is more talented than he is.
