Kathy Gallo, senior vice president and CLO of Northwell Health, says her learning delivery strategy changes as the organization changes. She expects learning delivery methods to continue changing and improving in the next five to 10 years with increasing knowledge about the science of learning.

We have taken the past five months – we’ll be reporting out to the CEO sometime in the summer to look at what our Center for Learning and Innovation will look like in the future, the next five or 10 years. Part of that discussion is always around new delivery methods: virtual reality, digitalizing much of our curriculum, etc. But still the one thing that we pretty much agreed upon is the need for, at times, people to come together to learn, as well.
We are looking very closely at how to deliver our strategy. The strategy will change. The organization changes. I think the skill and the competencies will be the easier part to figure out. The delivery methods are critical. It should all be dependent on the science of learning. There is a lot of science coming out now in terms of how people learn. And then of course, the evaluation and the assessment methods. People can acquire knowledge, but that doesn’t necessarily mean that it can be applied the way it should be applied, so to be able to assess that and then to do some evaluation around that and then to sit and coach, if performers need to be coached, etc., etc.
