About Capt. Timothy Hammond

Capt. Tim Hammond serves as the commanding officer, Training Center Yorktown, and the national training campus for Coast Guard response, prevention and engineering training. As commanding officer through four major business lines of training, assessments, doctrine and external engagement he leads 835 active duty, reserve and civilian women and men providing talent development solutions to the Coast Guard workforce and our international maritime partners. Overseeing a portfolio of seven technical schools and 120 advanced courses delivered in residence, online and exported to field units, the Yorktown team strives to forge today’s force to execute tomorrow’s mission.  

Capt. Hammond has dedicated over 11 years of his career to developing the workforce. He served as the training officer at the Coast Guard Maritime Law Enforcement Academy in Charleston, South Carolina, the chief of operations training for Force Readiness Command and the director for training and evaluation in the White House Military Office in Washington, D.C.

Beyond developing the workforce, Capt. Hammond has conducted search and rescue, environmental protection, humanitarian assistance and law enforcement missions from the Bering Sea to the Eastern Pacific Ocean and throughout the Caribbean Sea. His operational career has spanned over 10 years of service at sea aboard six ships, commanding both USCGC Chincoteague and USCGC Padre in Key West, Florida, and USCGC Confidence in Cape Canaveral, Florida.  

Capt. Hammond holds a Bachelor of Science in Management from the U.S. Coast Guard Academy, a Master of Science in Instructional Systems Technology from Indiana University and a Master of Arts in International Strategic Security Studies from the National Defense University.
