About Shonna Waters

Shonna Waters is a regional vice president of behavioral science at BetterUp, where she leads a team that conducts research to advance the science of behavior change and consults with organizations to apply it in support of business goals. Prior to joining BetterUp, Waters was the vice president of research at the Society for Human Resource Management and technical director of human resource strategy and program design at the National Security Agency. She has spent more than 15 years helping organizations make evidence-based decisions. She continues to coach in her own coaching practice. Her clients include leaders across organizational levels (ICs to C-suite), sectors and industries, such as products, business development, IT, contracting and real estate. Waters holds a doctorate in industrial-organizational psychology and statistics from the University of Minnesota, a certificate in leadership coaching from Georgetown University’s Leadership Coaching Program, and is an ICF certified coach. Her work has been published in a variety of peer-reviewed journals, HR magazines and books. She received SIOP’s 2018 Distinguished Early Career Contributions Practice Award in recognition of distinguished early career contributions to the science and practice of industrial and organizational psychology.
